“It Changed the Way I Think About Sleep”: Libby Clark on Her Life-Changing Experience with Sleep Works

When Libby Clark first heard about Sleep Works and CBT-I (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Insomnia), it felt like the universe was nudging her in the right direction.
“I heard about them on the podcast We Can Do Hard Things with Martha Beck and Glennon Doyle,” she shared. Around the same time, another conversation on The Armchair Expert podcast emphasized the effectiveness of CBT for changing mental patterns and reducing anxiety. “It was kind of like two things in the same week. Both reiterated that CBT-I was the first line of defense for sleep issues, and I’d never heard of it before.”
After connecting with Sleep Works through a free 15-minute consultation, Libby enrolled in the group CBT-I program. At that point, she had been battling sleep issues since childhood. “I was the classic all-over-the-place sleeper. I couldn’t fall asleep, couldn’t stay asleep, just had every problem. I started taking sleep aids at 19 and chased that for years and years; Unisom, Ambien, Lunesta, CBD gummies; you name it.”
But even after tapering off stronger medications, sleep remained a constant source of anxiety for Libby. “I was almost able to get off the medication by myself, but I would fret about a vacation or a night away,” she shared. In trying to find relief, she estimates she spent thousands over the years chasing solutions; from over-the-counter sleep aids to CBD gummies and trendy supplements. “Nothing ever really helped,” she said. “I wasted a ton of money chasing that for years and years.”
That’s why, for Libby, the cost of the Sleep Works program isn’t just justified; it’s actually economical. “Yes, you could look at it as pricey, but you’re probably spending that money anyway if you’re not sleeping. You’re paying for it in some way whether it’s in missed work, stress, supplements, or just not functioning at your best.” Unlike quick fixes, the CBT-I program gave her lasting tools and a true resolution to a lifelong issue. “This was the thing that actually worked.”
What made the biggest difference? “Just changing the way you think about falling asleep was probably the most impactful thing I could do,” Libby said. “We took a trip right after I started the program, and I slept better than my husband, better than my kid, better than everybody.”
CBT-I’s structured approach helped her reframe nightly thoughts and build a more consistent sleep schedule. “Even though this part’s absolutely horrible and nobody wants to do it, giving yourself a sleep window does make your sleep better,” she admitted. “It doesn’t feel like torture the way they do it. And if things get hard, you can fall back on that anytime.”
Since finishing the program in March, Libby’s sleep has been, in her own words, completely transformed. “I identify as a good sleeper. I don’t really complain about sleep anymore. I used to think about it every day. I don’t think about it anymore. It’s a burden I don’t carry.” What was once an exhausting mental loop of worry, preparation, and frustration has now become a non-issue and no longer consumes her time or energy.
The benefits didn’t stop at night. With better sleep, Libby found clarity and capacity in other areas of her life. “It frees up space to work on other things. If you’re rested, you can start doing other things, you know?” The impact of improved sleep extended well beyond rest. It allowed her to re-engage with daily life in a more intentional and energized way; and move forward in other aspects of her life.
Despite initial hesitation around the group format, Libby was pleasantly surprised. “I was really not excited about it. And then it was good,” she said. “Everybody was different, and it helped to hear their stories.” For others worried about missing a session or two, Libby is clear: don’t let that stop you. “I almost didn’t do the program because I didn’t know if I could make all six sessions. But they sent me the video I missed, and I even had a 20-minute one-on-one to catch up. Everyone missed one, and everyone was fine.”
For Libby, the proof is in the lasting change. “This isn’t one of those things you do and then forget. I still fall back on the tools. It’s something that sticks.” And perhaps her most powerful endorsement comes in her matter-of-fact honesty: “I’m only doing this testimonial because it worked.”
