“Now I don’t freak out about sleep.”: How Claire Rumore reclaimed her nights, and her peace of mind, with Sleep Works.

For Claire Rumore, a coach and educator based in the San Francisco Bay Area, sleep had become an exhausting mystery.
By her early 30s, she began noticing a shift—falling asleep wasn’t the issue, but staying asleep became a nightly battle. “I’d wake up in the middle of the night and just lie there,” Claire recalled. “Or I’d wake up at 5 when I wanted to sleep until 7 or 8. It wasn’t restful. It was frustrating.”
Over the years, she tried it all: melatonin, THC, CBD, sleep rituals, even resignation. “I just thought maybe this is how it’s going to be for the rest of my life.”
But that changed when a friend, who happened to be enrolled in best-selling-author Martha Beck’s coaching program, mentioned a sleep course Martha had recommended. Claire’s interest was piqued. After more sleepless nights and an upcoming international trip looming, she enrolled in Sleep Works’ 6-week CBT-I group program
“It normalized my experience.”
Though initially hesitant about the group format, Claire soon found deep relief in connecting with others. “At first, I was like—ugh, other people. I’m a one-on-one person,” she laughed. “But then I heard their stories. People of different ages, lifestyles, and struggles. And I realized I wasn’t alone. That in itself was a game-changer.”
With guidance from coaches Marlee and Leah, Claire began confronting the mental side of insomnia. “The reworking of negative sleep thoughts was huge. That came in the first session. I realized how much I was psyching myself out; making the problem worse by how I was thinking about it.”
“It was a boot camp—and it worked.”
While the program moved quickly, Claire trusted the process. “It felt like everything was upside down at first, like I was going backwards. But the results came after the program ended, when everything started to gel and become muscle memory.”
What made the biggest difference? The behavioural tools: amber glasses, wind-down routines, gentle rituals, and giving herself permission to try and adjust.
She even got personalized travel coaching before her trip to South Africa. “We mapped out when to eat, when to use the light box, even how to dose my jet lag supplements. I never could’ve figured that out on my own.”
“Now I don’t freak out about it.”
Today, Claire’s sleep isn’t perfect every single night, but it’s no longer a source of panic. “I still have the occasional rough night, just like anyone, especially if I’m traveling or in a new space. But I don’t freak out. I know what to do. I have tools. I trust my body.”
And in a surprising shift, she now sees her body as a wise guide. “I listen to my body in a whole new way. If something’s off, I can feel it. I know whether I need to do a body scan, reset my routine—or get a chiropractic adjustment.”
She also emphasized the emotional impact. “Marlee and Leah genuinely care. They celebrate your wins and hold your hand when you’re struggling. I didn’t expect to feel this held. They’re like your brilliant best friends cheering you on.”
“Everyone should have access to this.”
Today, Claire is collaborating with Sleep Works to bring sleep support into her own work in cancer and intimacy—advocating for cancer patients and survivors navigating major life changes at www.cancerandintimacy.com.
“Quality sleep affects your emotional regulation, your mood, your relationships, your sex life. For anyone healing, especially women, quality sleep should be non-negotiable.”
Her message to other women struggling with sleep?
“You’re not broken. You’re not alone. There are people who understand what’s happening in your body—and how to help. And Marlee and Leah will even make you feel like one of their besties.”
